In Romania, CardioStart offered support to improve the cardiovascular surgical services at Targu Mures Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation, launching  its very successful integrated emergency resusitation program (CIER).  This three day intensive course led to certification for doctors, nurses & paramedics.  Students learned advanced resuscitation principles & emergency care of pediatric and adult patients both within the hospital and in the community.  The topics included airway and intubation techniques, effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation, managing the circulation, medical emergencies, neurological emergencies, and head and spine injury management.  Additionally abdominal and extremity injury management, emergency drugs, management of burns, special care in children and infants, and major trauma and mass causualty triage, were offered in a series of lectures and practical stations.  CardioStart hopes to expand this curriculum to other countries as the program develops!
